Heute haben wir an der Veranstaltung “Forum FGM – Gemeinsam gegen Genitalverstümmelung” von SAIDA International e. V. teilgenommen. Weibliche Genitalverstümmelung ist eine Gewaltform, die Mädchen und Frauen weltweit betrifft. Sie ist weltweit als Menschenrechtsverletzung geächtet und verstößt gegen zahlreiche internationale Übereinkommen. Allein in Deutschland leben nach Schätzung von SAIDA (Stand: 2022) etwa 102.000 betroffene Frauen und gefährdete Mädchen. Die Gefahr, als Mädchen oder Frau von FGM betroffen zu sein, kann auch einen Asylgrund darstellen.

Today we took part in the event “Forum FGM – Together against Female Genital Mutilation” by SAIDA International e. V.
Female genital mutilation is a form of violence that affects girls and women worldwide. It is outlawed worldwide as a violation of human rights and violates numerous international conventions. According to estimates by SAIDA (as of 2022), there are about 102,000 affected women and girls at risk in Germany alone. The risk of being affected by FGM as a girl or woman can also be a reason for asylum.
